      …..a dream comes true

Epilogue Players is the realization of a dream come true for the late Bertha Starkus who felt there was considerable talent and theatre interest among men and women 50 and older, but not much opportunity, since most community theatre was geared to younger people.

Through Bertha’s enthusiastic leadership; the  fledgling group’s dedication and hard work; and with  financial assistance from the Indiana Arts Commission, the group was able to form Epilogue Players in 1976. Their first production was at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. From there, the group moved to the Command Playhouse at Ft. Harrison, remaining there for four years, until the theatre was closed by the new fort commander. Undaunted, Epilogue kept presenting plays at various churches until 1984, when they were able to rent space at the Hedback Community Theatre. With funding from Phil Hedback, money from their own treasury, and a lot of hard labor  by the membership, this “ugly duckling” was transformed into one of the most charming little theatres in Indianapolis.
